About

Day 1: Learn about color theory and the concept of filling a page up with color and then drawing line work, or collaging, on top of that color. You’ll learn how to make a book from a single sheet of paper, which ends up being 16 sheets after being folded. You’ll watercolor every page of the book, and, after it dries, you’ll have the chance to fill the book with a combination of drawn and glued images.

Day 2: Handcrafted greeting cards! Learn how to make one-of-a-kind cards using collage, and how to combine images and words with lettering techniques. Make a panorama cartoon story greeting card, which is a card that opens from the middle.

Day 3: Surface designs and patterns. Learn how to create patterns (via cutting or drawing) of your own, either as stand-alone illustrations or something you can use as decoration on your cards, book pages, or book covers.

Day 4: Accordion books. These fold-out books can be one-of-a-kind or “variation” editions, based on the same book but slightly different because they’re handmade. You can explore a panorama format, and will have the choice of doing a single- or double-sided accordion book. What you've learned about surface design may help when it comes to the covers.

Day 5: Pop-Up cards. After you finish your other projects, this will be your last project. These are great to give as gifts, or just make for fun, with a small image or character that pops out of the card when you pull it up.
