About

Learn a technique similar to smocking. You'll start by threading a needle, then learn how to create a grid, interpret a pattern diagram, and sew the pattern into the fabric.

You'll learn the history of this technique and be able to view examples of your instructor's fiber work. Reference books will be available for perusing, inspiration, and samples. You're encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and become inspired by this beautiful technique.

You'll complete a piece useful for home decor and find inspiration to explore further!

Materials

  • A $2 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers a fabric pencil you'll get in class.
  • You need to bring:
  • Two 1-yard pieces of fabric in solid colors. You can choose from these types of fabric: cotton, silk, linen, velvet, polyfibre, or satin. It’s fun to experiment!
    • Note: Fabric can be purchased from instructor for $10 per half yard.
  • Sewing needle with large eye and sharp point.
