About

This introduction to the fundamentals of architectural drawing, model-building, planning, and town mapping focuses on hands-on activities and a group project. You'll gain an understanding of how architects shape the world around them.

  • Day 1: Introduction to architecture and drawings — floor plans.
  • Day 2: Drawing elevations and sections.
  • Day 3: Platonic solids (a geometry term you'll learn), architecture structures, and model building.
  • Day 4: Town planning and Nolli Map concepts (a Nolli Map is a unique map that highlights the relationship between public and private spaces and focuses on accessibility and flow). We'll sketch a rough draft of the Bainbridge Island city map together.
  • Day 5: We'll create the final Bainbridge Island map in the Nolli Map style.

Maya Leites

Maya is a Bainbridge Island-based artist with a background in architecture. She’s also a classical musician, educator, and parent. She has founded several community-based art initiatives, including ArTchitecture - kids studio, a creative space designed to help children explore art and architecture, and Discover Arts in the Park, a non-profit organization based in Seattle. Maya’s artwork is focused on capturing the essence of form, space, time, and sound through her paintings. Her preferred mediums include acrylics, oil paints, charcoal, pastels, and ink.
Artist statement: As an artist, I believe that art is a powerful mode of communication that goes beyond words. My passion for architecture and music, coupled with my travels, has instilled in me a deep interest in understanding how human beings experience and interact with their environment. For me, every painting is a new adventure in discovering unique ideas, concepts, and techniques; each artwork tells a different story and presents both intellectual and practical challenges. Through my art, I strive to explore the depths of the human experience and bring new perspectives to light.
