About
This month, the Monthly Speaker Program is a special field trip for something completely different — and we mean very different. We'll meet with Erik Knudsen, captain of the Viking ship Valkyrie docked in Poulsbo. Please take a moment to review the ship's website for more detailed information.
The Valkyrie is a 56-foot replica of Skuldeley 6, a 1,000-year-old Norwegian Viking ship discovered beneath the waters of Roskilde, Denmark. The Valkyrie took 11 years to be hand crafted. The ship planking is Alaskan yellow cedar from Canada. The framing is white oak from the Willamette Valley and the mast is a Douglas fir single trunk. The ship is certified as an inspected passenger vessel by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Join us for this special event, which includes a dockside talk about the history and construction of the Valkyrie followed by a Viking sailing.
There are limited slots for this event — a maximum of 12 individuals for each sailing. However, we have reserved time for two different groups, increasing the total to 24.
