About
Come on in to work on your own projects. There's always a monitor on hand, although no specific instruction is provided.
Details
- The etching presses are available for supervised use by those who have taken a class using the press or have etching press experience elsewhere, but who aren't yet certified for independent use at BARN.
- Registration is required. The last half hour is devoted to cleanup.
Certification
- You can seek certification to use the studio’s etching presses and letterpress equipment and presses independently. To receive certification, you must:
- Be a current BARN member.
- Take a BARN class using the equipment you want to be certified on. If you already have significant experience on similar equipment and would like to pursue certification without taking a class, contact print.lead@bainbridgebarn.org.
- Master the required skills for the equipment, typically by attending Open Studios after completing a class.
- Find an Open Studio with a qualified monitor who can certify you on the specific equipment (not all monitors are certified to approve all equipment.) Check the instructor/guide bio below to see which equipment the monitor can certify.
- Attend an appropriate Open Studio and request certification. You'll be certified once you demonstrate, to the monitor’s satisfaction, that you have mastered the required skills.
Prerequisites
You must have taken introductory classes in either printmaking, letterpress, or book arts or have attended a studio orientation.
Class Policies
- You must register (no drop-ins).
- Ages 14 and up are welcome.
BARN Policies
- View BARN's Cancellation and Refund Policy.
- Tuition Assistance is available. Fill out the application before registering.
- BARN is committed to accessibility. We try to make accommodations when requested; the earlier you contact us, the more likely we can help. Fill out the Accommodation Request Form before any class for which you require an accommodation. Email accessibility@bainbridgebarn.org if you have any questions.
- Sensory Statement: Makerspaces like BARN can be noisy and cluttered, smell strongly, and have bright or flickering lights. BARN is not an allergen-free facility. If you have concerns, please email info@bainbridgebarn.org.
