About

Looking for an evening writing community? Night Writers brings the spirit of the Writers’ Studio’s Write Now to Monday nights. Join us on Zoom for focused writing sessions using an optional sprint format — 25 minutes on, quick break, repeat — right up to 8 PM. Prefer to work without pauses? Feel free to keep writing during the breaks.

Night Writers offers a safe, supportive accountability group for writers who need an evening alternative to the morning Write Now sessions.

To help keep Night Writers going, please consider donating to BARN. Make sure you mention "Night Writers" in the donation note!

  • We’ll meet in person for a fun blend of critiquing, conversation, and cupcakes each quarter.

  • The link also will be in the Special Instructions of your registration on the BARN website. Signing up doesn’t mean you have to commit to all the sessions.

Emily Smiley

Emily, a writer from South Carolina who now calls Seattle home, crafts stories that reflect the world back to her readers, inviting them to explore deeper truths within themselves. Her novel, Treading Water, came in first in the horror category of the 2024 Pacific Northwest Writers' Association (PNWA) unpublished competition. She’s the programming coordinator for the Writer’s Studio at BARN. She’s also a member of the PNWA and the Seattle Chapter of the Horror Writers Association. Emily is a co-founder of Content Hospital, a speculative fiction writers marketing collective, and is represented by A.J. Van Belle at the Booker Albert Literary Agency. When she’s not giving her readers nightmares, she’s running, traveling, reading, or playing video games.
