About
You'll get an overview of traditional rug-hooking history and hear about different types of hooks, backings, frames, fibers, and cutters.
After a short demonstration of hooking techniques, you'll get assistance to hook a small 5 foot by 7 foot mat from a kit containing linen backing, hand-dyed wool strips and a hook. Different fibers will be available to use in honoring the history of recycling when it comes to traditional rug-hooking roots in the Northeast Canadian provinces and New England states.
Several different simple finishing options will be demonstrated, as will the transfer of a pattern to backing. You'll gain the basic knowledge of traditional rug hooking.
Materials
- A $70 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers a hoop, pattern on linen backing, cut wool strips, and a beginner hook.
- You need to bring embroidery scissors.
