About

Learn how to make three-dimensional objects using crochet and a little wire, tape, and glue. The skills you'll learn and practice include:

  • How to stiffen crochet objects by incorporating craft wire into the project as you're stitching
  • Advanced pattern and diagram reading
  • How crochet stitches of varying length can be combined to shape an object

At the first session, you'll concentrate on making the head, petals, sepal, and leaves of the rose, completing the pieces at home if needed. During the second session, you'll assemble the the rose into a completed flower.

Skill level: Intermediate. Although this class will not use anything but basic crochet stitches, you'll be doing small, fine stitching, which is more difficult than working with larger hooks. Good vision and lighting are also helpful.

Project

You will create a single closed rose, with foliage, that can be displayed in a bud vase.

Materials

  • A materials fee of $15, included in the cost of the class, will provide a kit containing all the materials needed to complete the project:
  • 50 yards each of red and green crochet thread
  • Fiberfill
  • Wire for stem and stiffening
  • Green floral tape
  • Clear adhesive
  • A 1.75 mm crochet hook
  • If you're doing assembly at home, you'll also need a hot glue gun. We'll use the studio's in class.
  • Download and print a copy of the Closed Rose pattern by Happy Patty Crochet, available for $4 from Ravelry here.
  • Note that we'll be using larger thread and crochet hooks than called for in the pattern.

Prerequisites
