About

This free orientation covers policies and etiquette in a community workshop, along with safety and the studio’s leadership structure.

The open studio experience is discussed as well as what the studio contributes to support members’ learning and project work.

Learning opportunities to help the studio run smoothly are provided. Volunteer jobs range from serving as safety monitors, assisting on community service projects, and helping on Monday Maintenance.

If you are new to woodworking, a basic series of classes is explained to help you begin your woodworking experience while using natural and sustainable materials to create with your hands.

Jeffrey Williams

Jeff spent 30 years as a firefighter for California state and Orange County fire agencies, and another 10 years as director of marketing and events for the Orange County Professional Firefighter Association. Jeff has worked with the Boy Scouts, was events director for the 400-member North Coast Aquatics Swim Team, and the school site director for a new campus design team for the Vista Unified School District, California. After a move to the Northwest in 2010, Jeff joined the Bainbridge Island Community Woodworkers. This led to becoming the Wood Studio's first studio lead and manager of the cabinet build project for BARN during initial construction. He has continued to work on the studio's steering and programming committees, as well as BARN's facilities committee. In 2018, Jeff joined BARN's Board of Directors.
