About

Combine art and technology and make characters that move their mouths to lip-sync to music or words, thanks to code and a sound sensor. Build the robots out of common materials like cardboard, paint, and paper and bring them to life through coding, motors, lights, and a variety of components.

You'll be introduced to robotics by using micro:bit and Hummingbird Bit and explore the different components, how to use them, and code them using block-coding applications like MakeCode. You'll learn different cardboard building techniques and mechanisms that can be used for their creations. And you'll be making music videos or clips with your lip-syncing characters that can then be shared with the world.

Details

  • Skill level: This is an introductory class. No coding or building experience is necessary.
  • To keep class costs down, robotics kits will be provided for use during class time and returned to the instructor at the end of the week.
  • You can bring your own device (preferably a PC or Mac laptop, or Chromebook). If you don’t have one, we'll have a limited number available to borrow during class. When you register, select "Using BARN Computer" or "Bringing Device From Home."
