About
Hear from David Kirby, the Western Account Manager and a technical advisor for Woodborn USA, the US importer & distributor of finishes made by Holz und Color Gmbh & Co. KG, in Warendorf, Germany.
Many BARN woodworkers are familiar with Osmo Polyx-Oil clear oil and wax finish for woodworking. It's on many surfaces at BARN, including on the stair treads. But the brand also includes a wide array of interior and exterior finishes that add color to wood — no surprise, given that the company name incorporates both the German word for wood and the English word color.
All Osmo finishes have an oil base, so they are different from the water-based finishes that are common today. Yet they also differ from old-fashioned oil paints. Osmo's colored products dry to a finish that remains breathable and won't crack, peel, blister or flake off. Kirby will discuss application methods as well as techniques for restoring the finishes, when needed. After his presentation, people who are interested can head down to the Woodworking Studioy to get hands-on experience in applying the different finishes.
These monthly presentations are open to all, with no need to pre-register. They are a good way to meet with other woodworkers while learning about different aspects of this craft. As usual, we'll have coffee and nibbles.
