About

Mark making, one foundation of drawing and painting, is the way artists produce different lines, dots, marks, patterns and textures that become their own language. This workshop will be a happy exploration of some of the many ways we make those marks. We'll investigate both intentional and experimental marks, controlled and gestural marks, and the role of materials in how marks bring life to our work.

No previous art experience is required. The only prerequisites are a sense of adventure and a willingness to experiment. If you're already intrigued by mark making, this class will provide a fun foundation for further exploration. We’ll adopt the attitude of “the beginner’s mind” as we play with marks and materials to see what happens. You'll come away with a new understanding of this most basic element in your compositions.

Materials

A $10 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need.

Pamela L Galvani

Pam is an artist working with text, line, and image. The continuing study and discipline of lettering have been the foundation for all of her studio work and art teaching. Her continued study of lettering has provided a strong foundation for her ongoing examination of marks as carriers of meaning.
Pam has shown her work locally and throughout the United States. She holds a bachelor's degree in history, a master's in teaching history, and a master of fine arts.
