Instructor Yori Seeger first saw this ancient tool in a museum in Tallinn, Estonia. Classic “C-shaped” fire striker steels are devices from another age, used by peoples around the world for over two millennia to make fire until matches were invented in the 19th century.
These strikers are a lot of fun to make. Come enjoy a day at Yori’s forge, have a turn at using your fire striker to make fire, and unlock the secrets of blacksmithing.
Details
BARN forge events are held in open-air, unconditioned spaces. Please dress accordingly.
Materials
A $30 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need.
Class Policies
- Wear natural-fiber clothing only (no synthetics that could burn your skin).
- Wear sturdy shoes with closed toes and heels. Sandals are not permitted.
- Ages 14 and up are welcome.
