About

Learn how to use silver solder and a jeweler’s torch.  See how the material flows when soldering jump rings, earring posts, and other kinds of joints.

In this one-day skills class, you'll use the Smith® Little Torch to solder copper and silver. You'll practice several types of soldering techniques and leave with samples you completed in class.

Details

  • Experience level: Beginner to intermediate.
  • We'll take one 15- to 30-minute break if you want to bring food or snacks. BARN has a refrigerator and microwave on the lower level.

Materials

  • A $32 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need.
  • You should bring a cotton apron and a hand towel.

Class Policies

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and natural-fiber clothing.
  • Do not wear loose or synthetic-fiber clothing, dangling jewelry, scarves, or ties.
  • Tie back long hair in ponytail or bun.

Erin is a hobbyist metalsmith and lapidary artist, studio monitor, and occasional instructor in the Jewelry & Fine Metals Studio at BARN. She loves tools and technology, and her favorite part about making jewelry and cutting stones is using her imagination to work on tiny engineering puzzles that occasionally turn into wearable art.
