About

Overcome the fear of painting “en plein air” and learn a few different ways you can “warm up to your subject” before completing a finished scene in your sketchbook. You'll receive personalized guidance and instruction on location, helping you capture the essence of your subject while leaving out the distracting details, so you can work efficiently and confidently out in the weather.

Class 1: You'll start in the Print & Book Studio and be introduced to various sketching methods using objects we found in the studio. Then, you'll head outside and sketch a vignette or two using the methods we learned. The instructor will float around and provide personal guidance. The goal is to get comfortable capturing the forms through line drawing and simple shading.

Class 2:
We'll meet in the Great Room upstairs, where you'll learn methods to apply colors to the sketches. Then the you'll head outside again to paint a scene and apply colors to your sketch. The instructor will provide hands-on coaching from student to student.
