Learn the art of screen printing in this five-hour workshop. Screen printing is an ancient method of transferring pigment to a surface. An experienced printmaker will guide you through every step of the process. All aspects of will be covered, including how to use vinyl and paper as stencil material, how to properly set up the screen for printing, what types of inks can be used, and how to heat set for washing the fabric. Commercial printers use screen printing today for T-shirts and textile printing, and you'll learn the process in this workshop.

Details

  • Bring your creativity with design ideas or sketches for use in class.
  • Dress for a mess! Dyes and ink can stain, so wear dark clothing or clothes your don't mind getting stained.
  • Bring a bag lunch. A refrigerator and microwave are available for your use in on the lower level.

Materials

A $20 materials fee, included in the cost of this class, covers the yard of cotton cloth and newsprint you'll get in class.  All other needed equipment, tools, and ink will be provided.

Class Policies

  • Ages 9 and up are welcome.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and (optionally) bring an apron.
