About

This introduction to the magic of paper marbling will give you an understanding of the history, styles, tools, and techniques of classical European marbling.

We'll cover all the foundational elements of marbling practice including acquisition and proper use of supplies, including carrageenan, primer, paints, trays, rakes, combs, etc.

Your instructor will demonstrate how marbling is done with instruction on handling paints in the water medium and dealing with known and unknown variables. He'll show you how to create classical and basic marbling patterns (as well as spontaneous designs) using a diverse array of rakes and combs.

You'll have ample time for your own practice and experimentation. You'll have your own tray, set of paints, rakes, combs, and  paper. You'll likely leave with 10-15 sheets of your own original marbled pieces.

Materials

  • A $30 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers what you'll need.
  • You need to bring an apron and wear comfortable shoes.
