About

In this introductory course to the letterpress you will learn the basic skills required to find, set, ink, print, clean, and store metal type at the Print & Book Arts studio. By the end of this class you should have acquired the fundamentals required to get certified to use the Vandercook proof press and apply your news skills to letterpress projects. In the process, you will learn about job cases, ems and ens, quads, picas, furniture, galley trays, magnets, location-location-location, and why you should always wash your hands after handling metal type.

Once you have completed this class, you are encouraged to practice your newly acquired skills during open studio. Once you have practiced your skill you will be able to work with a certifying monitor and get certified to set metal type at the studio and to print using the Vandercook proof press.
