About

The BARN Monthly Woodworkers' Presentation will be returning to BARN after a summer of various field trips. Please join us on Saturday, November 8, at 10:30 AM in the Great Room for a unique presentation filled with music!

The November Monthly Woodworkers' Presentation proudly presents Neil Miller and the 2025 BARN guitar class students. Neil is a skilled luthier, a craftsman who specializes in building stringed musical instruments. Over the past 44 years he has built many instruments, including acoustic guitars, mandolins, electric guitars, resophonic guitars, and ukuleles. He uses local woods as much as possible and has collaborated with local luthiers in each place he has lived: Indiana, Uganda, Michigan, Texas, Tanzania, and now the Pacific Northwest.

Neil is a member of the Guild of American Luthiers. He sells his own creations and does repairs and restorations of instruments at his workshop in Tacoma. https://milleracoustics.com/

Neil and Doug Salot led an acoustic guitar-building course for five students at BARN in early 2025. This course was extremely successful and produced a group of dedicated luthier enthusiasts. Beautiful and exceptional-sounding guitars were completed using Indian rosewood, maple, cherry, and mango wood. The November Woodworkers' Presentation will include sharing from these guitar students as well as music performed by Neil and his students playing their own hand-made instruments. The students will also offer their own personal insights on building a guitar. Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions and to sample the guitars if they wish.

Neil and Doug have agreed to offer another course on acoustic guitar building at the BARN beginning in February 2026. Specifics on this course will be shared at the meeting. BARN is fortunate to host such a skilled craftsman and educator of this specialized woodworking art form.
