About

Our Writing Coach series, Draft Builder, is a three-month series split into three different phases, Foundation and Story Blueprint, Drafting, and Finishing the Draft to help writers at any stage of their writing process. In each phase, a writer will work one-on-one with Writing Coach Chrystal Lester to get the most out of the coaching experience.

The first phase, Foundation and Story Blueprint, is a structured, beginner-friendly program designed to help writers move from a loose idea to a confident, well-organized story blueprint. Over the course of the program, writers clarify their purpose and goals, shape their story concept, and learn how to turn inspiration into a workable plan. The class emphasizes clear structure and intentional decision-making, giving writers the tools they need to stay focused, motivated, and consistent as they write.

Writers lay the groundwork for their book by developing compelling characters, defining story arcs, identifying major turning points, and outlining their plot. Each week combines guided assignments with personalized feedback, covering everything from publishing pathways to tone, voice, and pacing. By the end of this phase, writers will have a solid story blueprint, a drafted scene, and the confidence to move forward into the drafting process with clarity and momentum.

Each phase will include: a weekly 60-minute call or an in-person meet-up on Bainbridge Island with Chrystal, and daily email/chat support.
