About

This focused Open Studio, with a trained safety monitor always on duty, is for enameling only. Enameling is the process of fusing powdered glass to another surface such as metal, at high heat.

Details

  • You won't have access to any other tools or equipment.
  • No formal instruction is given.
  • Do all your metal prep before attending this Open Studio.
  • If no one has shown up by the end of the first hour, the monitor may close the studio. If you know you’ll arrive more than an hour after the start time, email the registrar by 11:59 PM the day before.
  • Bring a towel for cleanup.

Materials

A $12 materials fee, which is the cost of attending this Open Studio for members, covers everything you'll need.

Prerequisites

Class Policies

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and natural-fiber clothing.
  • Do not wear loose or synthetic-fiber clothing, dangling jewelry, scarves, or ties.
  • Tie back long hair in ponytail or bun.

Karin Luvaas

Karin Luvaas is a Bainbridge Island artist and jeweler with a degree in encaustics, painting, and metal sculpture. She has studied under numerous jewelry masters including Blaine Lewis, founder of New Approach School for Jewelers in Tennessee, and achieved graduate jeweler status under Alan Revere of the world-renowned Revere Academy of San Francisco. Karin also is a GIA Graduate Gemologist and holds a Jewelers of America Bench Jeweler Technician certificate. Her current work can be seen at karinluvaas.com
