Begin your bladesmithing journey with this introductory class in knife-making. You’ll forge a camp knife in a step-by-step process: shape, harden, temper, and finally sharpen your knife. The image provides a glimpse of the steps you’ll work through in forging this basic blade.

There’s a lot to cover in this two-day class, and you’ll learn a lot. But even more importantly, you’ll have a ton of fun with the instructor, Yori, guiding you along the way.

Details

This class is held in an open-air workshop, so dress accordingly.

Materials

A $30 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need.

Class Policies

  • Wear natural-fiber clothing only (no synthetics that could burn your skin).
  • Wear boots or sturdy shoes with closed toes and heels. Sandals are not permitted.
  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.

Yori Seeger
Blade Smithing

Yori is a sculptor and a blacksmith who trained in Florence, Italy, and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute. He cofounded an art school called Visual Philosophy where he created and taught the curriculum for both blacksmithing and sculpting programs. He has worked in sculpture studios, foundries, and blacksmith shops for 20-plus years. He specializes in large-scale, figurative sculpture; ornamental ironwork; and forging woodworking tools.
