About
The shellac plate process is a simple way to create and print an etching using mat board and shellac. The basics on how to make a shellac plate, etch, cut, shape, burnish and print a plate will be covered in this one-day class.
There will be demonstrations on how to ink the plate and how to burnish the plate to create beautiful tonal qualities. Two or three plates will be supplied for immediate use. A number of finished prints will be created.
This class will provide the skills to independently create new plates at home, and later return to the studio to print. The plates are reusable for a long time, but not as permanent as a copper plate. No acids are used in making or printing these plates.

Materials
- A $15 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers all the materials you'll need.
- You're encouraged to bring in your preferred paper if you want. Light-weight Japanese paper works well along with the standard BFK, which also can be purchased at the studio on the day of the class.
