About

Gain confidence to build a daily sketchbook practice based on following what you love and observing the world around you.

You'll learn to increase your focus, heighten your observation and appreciation of your world, and build a foundation for creative inspiration. The first session will focus on working with color. The second session will focus on shapes and composition.

Both sessions will discuss ways to tap into your unique visual voice and overcome the mental blocks that often interfere with creating. You'll explore creative ways to build a sketchbook that emphasizes observing your world and enhancing your attention, awareness, and creativity. You'll also learn how artists have used sketchbooks as the foundation for their ideas, and how you can, too.

Materials

  • A $10 materials fee, included in the price of the class, covers a drawing pencil, kneaded eraser, glue stock, and a Sakura micron drawing pen in black.
  • You need to bring a sketchbook.

Class Policies

Ages 14 and up are welcome.

Jennifer Davey

Jennifer is a contemporary American artist whose paintings are minimal and poetic. They explore themes of loss, integration, joy, and healing. Davey navigates the internal landscape of emotion while also drawing inspiration from external geography. Recently relocated from Denver, Colo., to the Pacific Northwest, the geography and climate are dramatically impacting her paintings. Verdant greens, dense, foggy rainy days, and the impact of the seasons are weaving their way into her work. A return to her life-long love of fashion and drawing also are emerging. These interests reflect a core desire to be grounded in the body in order to create a healthy, vibrant mind-body-spirit.
A life-long passion for education through the arts, she has taught at The Clyfford Still Museum in Denver as well as in many different venues both online and in person for children and adults. She writes a regular Friday letter to email subscribers, sharing about her studio practice, art, and philosophy.
